Early History
An Examination Of How The Navy Ended Up In Oklahoma

Pre September 1942

This section will examine why the Navy chose Oklahoma to relocate many of its wartime naval training activities. It will look at the relationship between the University Of Oklahoma and the Navy and the "by-chance" meeting that started it all. Former university president, George Lynn Cross, wrote a book titled "The University of Oklahoma and World War II, A Personal Account 1941-1945. It is the de facto historic record of the early days and will be relied upon heavily to complete the early history. Additionally this section will examine how the naval activities relocated to Oklahoma fit into the overall naval air training program being conducted accross the nation.
